Following a recent review meeting and follow-up discussions with the environmental regulators, we can confirm these updates in relation to audits:
The previous agreements with the EA, NRW and SEPA regarding remote auditing are no longer in place. These agreements allowed for remote audits to take place only in exceptional circumstances, where they were unavoidable and solely as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This means a return to all audits on-site in England, Wales, and Scotland, for the first time since March 2020.
The existing agreement with NIEA has been extended until 31st December 2021. Therefore, remote audits can continue to take place at sites in Northern Ireland, but only under exceptional circumstances, and the certification body will notify NIEA prior to the audit taking place. Approval from NIEA will continue to be required following consideration of any local issues known to the regulator.
